Hey love! I know you have thread trackers that could be used as a check list or to do list, but I was wondering if you had a quick code for one. I would love a quick way to keep track of the tasks I want to do that also looks cute. I also saw you had this entry with the checklist for mods but I’m looking for something that I can edit easily and play around with. Do you have anything like that or any suggestions on how to edit this thread tracker of yours to look like a to do list? Thank you in advance!

I'm gonna roast myself and beg you not to use that thread tracker because the code part of it is super old and bad because it's from when I was still heavily learning LOL.

So here's what I'm gonna do: I was going to make a bio code for my last code of the month, but I honestly was also really wanting to make something I haven't posted before, so I'm gonna make a nice progress and checklist code and post it today, because now that I'm thinking about it I'm hype to make one lmao. Sound good? :D

Lol! It’s still more than I could ever do ;) but that’s a deal I won’t use it. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with as always ♥

Good afternoon. I apologize if this is a foolish question, but how do you set something up in your IJ so that you can just have one picture in a post that, when clicked, will send you to another page in your Journal (rather than having to use the "Read More" option)? Hopefully I didn't mangle that question. ^^''

And if you haven't been told already today, thank you for all of your various offerings and tutorials, and have a happy holiday season!

Aw, thank you so much! ♥

For a basic image link, you'll want to use the following:

<center><a href="ANYLINKURL"><img src="IMGURL"></a></center>

If you want an image cut without the cut text visible, you can disable the appearance of the cut by doing this:

<center><a href="THISENTRYURL#cut"><img src="IMGURL"></a></center><span style="display:none;"><lj-cut></span>

<a name="cut"></a> Your entry content here

This will give you the appearance of the first option but allow you to keep everything in one entry. I hope that helps!

Thank you so much!

And now, another inquiry: I don't know what I did wrong in using one of your layouts, but in my IJ, the whole top part (name, User Info/Friends/Calandar buttons, etc.) is no longer there. There is just a large gray blank area. I was wondering if you could take a look at the coding, which is below on this temporary online notepad link (https://shrib.com/#M52ufKXu3ZFv-Y4lYVCF), and please help me fix this; I can provide any other info as needed.

these layouts

the source code says you did edits on them, is the code available somewhere? they're being used by different people so i'm guessing they weren't bought?
Dec. 19th, 2017 06:26 am (UTC)
I'm sorry, I haven't seen either of those before! They probably just borrowed small pieces from one of my Generator layouts and merged them into another layout. I'd say ask them if you might be allowed to have a copy of the code with credit and see what they say!
Dec. 19th, 2017 05:21 pm (UTC)
I did ask one of them if they'd share the code, but I thought I'd also ask you just in case. Thanks for answering and having a look.

Hello again! I have another quick question: How do you set up things in a Journal post so that you can have multiple headers within the post and, at the top of the page, links that--when clicked--will each directly descend to a specific header?
Jan. 29th, 2018 05:57 pm (UTC)
Hey! What you're looking for is how to set up anchor links. You can style it any way you like, but the basic idea is below!

<a href="#one">One</a> <a href="#two">Two</a> <a href="#three">Three</a>

<a name="one"></a>Header text

Section content

<a name="two"></a>Header text

Section content

<a name="three"></a>Header text

Section content

Anchors These are what make your page jumps. The link and name can be anything as long as each corresponding one is the same. The a name is wrapped around nothing so that it doesn't turn your header into an inactive link, but still takes you to the right part of the page.

Titles These can say anything you want and do not have to match if you don't want them to. They are not tied to the jump function and are just labels.

Hey, it looks like with your new layout I can't get to your code tester anymore? It gives me an invalid security cert message:

"www.tessisamess.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: moya.asoshared.com, www.moya.asoshared.com Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN"

And then when I add an exception and continue anyway, it leads to a 404 error: "The server can not find the requested page: www.tessisamess.com/codetester (port 443)

Please forward this error screen to www.tessisamess.com's WebMaster."

Ahhh, shit, that's what I get for copy/pasting and rewriting the inner URL myself LMFAO; I already see the typo. I'll go in and fix that now, thanks for letting me know!
Feb. 4th, 2018 01:41 am (UTC)
fab, thanks so much for the quick response -- I was just like UGH I DON'T WANT TO USE JSFIDDLE, I LOVE TESS' CODE TESTER TOO MUCH

Working now!

Hi Tess! I wanted to tell you that I love all your work, and thank you for all of it, but I also have a slightly odd question and I'm not sure where else to put it.

You know that thing where links fade in when you hover, like in your Blocked: Redux layout? Is that the kind of thing that's even possible to do with in-entry code or does it only work in the layout CSS? ...I hope that made sense.
Feb. 4th, 2018 03:34 am (UTC)
Aw, thank you so much! Don't worry, not an odd question at all!

Unfortunately, using selectors like :hover only work in CSS and not directly styling HTML with the style="" tag. However, if you're using the code without an lj-cut you could give the outer container a class (ex. class="mycode") and then in your layout's CSS you could set a hover function:

.mycode a{opacity:0;}
.mycode:hover a{opacity:1;}
.mycode a:hover{}

I hope that helps! ♥

This is a weird question, but you're the coding expert around here, so I thought you might know the answer! Is there a way to have entries on your journal that aren't private or f-locked but that don't display/can only be reached by a link? Kind of like a googledoc with a shareable link? I'd like my journal to display as f-locked for a bunch of reasons, but there are also resources on it that, for ease, I'd like people to be able to access without logging into their CDJ. Does that make any sense at all?

I feel like this is probably beyond IJ's capabilities. And I can always create another journal for this stuff, but I figured it was worth asking! Thanks for everything you do :D
Feb. 5th, 2018 08:54 pm (UTC)
Hmmm, that's an interesting question. I'm honestly not sure it's doable without some super unintended side effects that could effect logged-in friends' usability of your journal.

If you want some pages that are sort of "share only" but not locked, I think your best possible option that won't mess anything up would be to use styles. Luckily your account is already permanent, which is all you need to be able to do it this way.

Basically, you'll want to create a style (any view is fine; I'd just throw them all into the top option personally, since the only time what you pick matters is when you're actually using it to replace your journal pages.) Once you're on the next page you can rename it at the top (there's also a perm link for it there too) and add your custom HTML+CSS page to the very bottom textbox and save it.

These won't have a comment feature available since they're not entries, but you can do pretty much anything in them (including making it match your journal, but without all the Generator gunk in the way.)

Thanks so much! You're the best and this is an awesome idea. I will give it a shot and see what I can do. I've been wanting to change my layout to one of yours for ages anyway, so I'll just have to dive in for a full overhaul :D
Feb. 11th, 2018 05:55 am (UTC)
Hi Tess! So sorry to bug you, especially since you've been going through so much lately. I'm coding my first layout in about five years and I'm baffled by something.

What I'm trying to do is to get the profile icon to be rounded except the code I'm doing it in is rounding the actual module and not the icon itself?

What I have is

.module-photo {
-moz-border-radius: 50px;
border-radius: 50px;

but obviously that's not working as you can see in this journal.

Any idea of how I could fix it?

Thanks heaps <3333
Feb. 11th, 2018 06:08 am (UTC)
Aw, it's no problem! If you want only the icon rounded you'll want to target .module-photo img instead. It's grabbing the container and not the image (if you want both rounded you'd apply it to both.)
Feb. 11th, 2018 06:25 am (UTC)
Also I'm super sorry to bug you even further but I'm still not all that familiar with Google Fonts. This is the layout on my desktop while this is on my phone and how it is supposed to look?
Feb. 11th, 2018 06:35 am (UTC)
For some reason IJ really doesn't like the @import function, actually, so it's not just you. What you'll want to do for S2 layouts is go directly to the URL that's inside the @import and snag the CSS from that for the layout's CSS. (Whereas in S1 Generator layouts you can just grab the HTML link and stick it in before the head ends.)

Hello! This might be a question that someone else has asked and I'm sorry if that's the case, I'm a bit all over the place today trying to catch up on long overdue online errands, one of which is very much related to this inquiry! I'm part of a mod team for a game and responsible for the upkeep of the character charts of said game but we still use tables so I think you can see where this query is headed -- I absolutely love div instead of tables (I'm probably using the wrong terminology) and would have absolutely no problem putting together one using one of your amazing codes but another one of our mods spent a good deal of time styling the fonts in our existing codes and we would very much like to keep using those fonts and overlap/shadow levels etc. I was wondering if this was something you would be able to give advice/tips/~hacks~ on? I appreciate any help you can give, honestly! If you'd like to see the layouts I'll PM you the game and you can see what we're working with ♥ Thank you in advance either way!
Feb. 12th, 2018 04:29 pm (UTC)
Aw don't worry, you're fine! ♥ Moving the styling over should be pretty easy in most cases; it'll just take a few minutes longer (or not, tbh. It might just replace the time you would have spent styling the fonts from scratch, haha!)

Seeing the codes you're wanting to rewrite would definitely help, but basically as long as it isn't a table element you'll be able to move it over as-is. If the whole table itself has anything in a style tag you'll be able to move that style to the main div; if any header text has styling the same goes for that.

PM me the codes though if you want a more detailed answer! ♥
