Auto-Capping With VLC

How to Take Automatic Screencaps in VLC
Hey, kids! It's your friendly neighborhood ~tessisamess, back with another tutorial. If you have any questions comment below and I'll get back at ya. And remember: Keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. Click an image for a larger version if you need to (they open in new tabs.) Here we go! For this tutorial you will need:
‣ VLC
‣ A movie or TV show episode of your choice (file format; DVDs are way finicky with aspect ratio and pulling the right file from the disc and I'm not getting into that fuckery.)

Your settings are ready to go! Re-open VLC and load up your movie and just let it play! VLC will do the rest. Please note that you NEED to edit your file path for every new movie or you will write over your previous screencaps.
IF THERE'S A TUTORIAL YOU'D LIKE TO SEE DONE LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS AND, IF I'M KNOWLEDGEABLE ENOUGH TO SPEAK ON THE SUBJECT, I'LL TRY TO GET IT DONE!

so here's what's happening for me
- when i open up the preferences and go to the filter section and type in scene in the first textbox and hit enter, the window closes. i assume what hitting enter here is doing is just pressing 'save'?
- i open preferences again, i go to video, i enter in the filepath i want, the prefix i want, the filetype i want, and the height/width ratio.
- then i go to output module > scene filter and enter in the same information (same filepath, same prefix, same height/width, same filetype)
- then i hit save, which closes the prefences menu. then i close vlc. then i reopen it. then i load my video file. then... nothing happens. no caps are made. not in the filepath i specified and not in the generic ones (documents>vlc player or my computer's default pictures folder). (if i skip that close-and-reopen vlc step and just immediately run a video after making these changes i get a bunch of blank jpg or png files.)
