Layouts, Codes, Tutorials, & Resources

Hey there, I'm Tess!

Welcome to my blog; I make lots of different layouts, codes, tutorials, and other resources for Insanejournal and Dreamwidth RPers! There's a lot to choose from and brand new content goes up every week!

Take a look around, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it!

Can't get enough resources? Why not subscribe to my Patreon for exclusive monthly content, or support the creation of more content by leaving a tip on Ko-Fi! ♡

If you're unable to comment on my journal to ask for help now that anon has been turned off due to serious spam issues, don't worry! Just shoot me an email and I'll send you an invite code for Insanejournal. I've got plenty to spare!

Please Note:

I do not offer assistance with any sites other than IJ and DW unless it is for general HTML and CSS (ie. custom hosted pages and similar.) I cannot convert a code to a new site's rules because there are a lot of niche RP sites, and I have no way of knowing each one's limitations and caveats. Sorry about that!

Control Strip Overhaul [Text]

Information

Hey guys! Not everybody's about that icon nav life, so I thought I'd make an alternate control strip with text links and dropdown menus for those of you who prefer it! This one has all the same editing specs as the icon version, so should still be crazy easy to retool to your style preferences. Enjoy! ♥

UPDATE! This code was updated on June 24, 2019!

Thank you sooooo much for making these! I can't wait to try them on DW!

I'm very unsure if these are DW-compatible, but if you'd like DW control strip overhauls I'd be more than happy to add DW versions of these and add them to the post!!

That would be awesome! I'm a diehard control strip user over on DW, but it sure is ugly!!

Starting this today! ♥ Would you guys also be interested in matching overhauls for the userinfo panel that appears when you hover someone's name or icon?
Jun. 24th, 2019 07:40 pm (UTC)
UM. Everyone that I know turns the hover menu off by default or else you're constantly accidentally friending or granting people access to things, so that would not be of any use to me personally!

But! Yay exciting! Thank you!

Oh, that is INSANELY good to know, thank you for the info! I may still do it anyway while I'm at it just for completion's sake in case anyone ever does need it, but I had no idea it was something people turned off so thank you for this info! ♥

You're welcome! Thank you! ♥

Had to make it a little different from the IJ version for the text link control strip, but both versions of the overhaul now have DW-compatible codes available!

Thank you soooooooo much. I just plugged it in via Stylus and it works great!

Seconding the hope for a DW version of this! I tried it out and it almost works, but with margin issues and a double @ by the username.

Oh, fantastic to know it's a close fit! I'm planning on doing this today actually, so DW versions should be up either today or tomorrow! ♥

Thank you for this! And sorry for not responding sooner. Apparently my IJ links to an email I no longer check.

hey tess! i love the dw control strip, it's super pretty! i was wondering, since i have a weird vivaldi setup with my tabs on the right and it scrunches up the elements of the strip -- i never use the search function. is it possible to take that out? how would i do it? i tried adding #lj_controlstrip_search{display:none;} but that didn't take it out, it just squished it in together with the 'reload page in style' element. thanks for your help!
Jun. 26th, 2019 07:11 pm (UTC)
Absolutely! You'll need to change the existing overrides, because the display is currently set to !important so it's overruling your new declaration. Change the filter form area of the CSS:

/* FILTER FORM */

#lj_controlstrip_search{display:flex!important;align-items:center;height:var(--height);border-right:1px solid var(--borders);padding:0 15px!important;text-transform:var(--case);font-size:var(--text-size2)!important;font-weight:bold;}
#lj_controlstrip_search a{font-size:var(--text-size2)!important;font-weight:bold;}
#lj_controlstrip_search form *{font-size:var(--text-size2);}
#lj_controlstrip_search input[type=submit]{padding:0 5px;margin:0 5px;}

To this, and you'll be all set!

/* FILTER FORM */

#lj_controlstrip_search{display:none!important;}

that did it! thanks so much :)
